Introduction
ZJU Mirror is a non-profit initiative supported by the Zhejiang University Information Technology Center and operated by the Zhejiang University Supercomputing Team. It promotes open-source software and helps users both on and off campus access resources from open-source projects efficiently. The service provides mirrors for projects including Docker, PostgreSQL, and Ubuntu for the benefit of education and scientific research, and advocates freedom, equality, collaboration, and sharing.
A rich selection of mirrors
ZJU Mirror hosts more than 50 mirrors, including commonly used sources such as Anaconda, Ubuntu, PyPI, Arch Linux, Debian, and Homebrew, meeting the everyday needs of students and faculty. We also provide documentation for most mirrors to help users configure them quickly.
Official recognition
We actively work with upstream projects to become an official mirror. Seventeen of our mirrors are currently officially recognized, including Ubuntu, CentOS, Arch Linux, CTAN, and ROS. Official recognition demonstrates that the stability, timeliness, and correctness of our service have earned upstream approval.
Integration with the CERNET mirror federation
The CERNET mirror federation is supported by the China Education and Research Network Center. It provides an index of, and redirects to, mirror sites on campus networks. We use its standardized interfaces to publish real-time resource utilization and mirror synchronization status. Detailed synchronization information is available on ZJU Mirror’s page in the CERNET mirror federation.
Software
ZJU Mirror relies on the following open-source projects:
- In-house:
- ZJUSCT/Falcon: A software repository mirror orchestrator that runs on Kubernetes
- ZJUSCT/mirror-front: An Astro-based frontend for mirror sites
- CERNET:
- mirrorz-org/mirrorz: The CERNET mirror federation
- mirrorz-org/mirrorz-docs: Shared mirror documentation for the CERNET mirror federation
- tuna/tunasync-scripts: Mirror synchronization tools from Tsinghua University’s TUNA Association
- Community:
- kubernetes/kubernetes: Container orchestration platform
- nginx/nginx: Web server
- RsyncProject/rsync: Mirror synchronization tool
Hardware
All hardware used by ZJU Mirror is sponsored by the ZJU Information Technology Center. The mirror service is a subproject of the Center’s Research at ZJU · Research Software Platform.
On April 17, 2025, we received the hardware for the third generation of the mirror service from the Information Technology Center. The third-generation infrastructure comprises three storage servers and two application servers interconnected through a 10-gigabit switch.
